Belagavi Integrated Rural Development Society (BIRDS)

Belgaum Integrated Rural Development Society (BIRDS) is a non-governmental organisation is working in the field of rural socio economic development since 1980. The centralized system of bureaucracy was hurdle for trickling down of government efforts and dedicated voluntary actions in the promotional activity of agriculture and rural development for the down trodden and untouched rural masses of remote villages of India. The north Karnataka, where villages are more, where farming is mainly under rain fed situation, where irrigation systems are not properly managed, where literacy and socio-economic development of the rural governance planning at the level of gram sabha and ward sabha, problem identification by the affected group and appropriate solution designed by the interested, dedicated and actively implementing associations was the then thought of Shri R. M. Patil, who dedicated his maximum time in the upliftment of rural people socio-economic and cultural arenas and development of lands through exploitation of natural resources to the highest possible extent. This has led him for the establishment of BIRDS – a non governmental, socio-economic development, non-religious, non sectoral, non political organisation in the year 1980, with its registration under Karnataka societies registration act of 1860.
